Incorporating Gratitude into Your Prayer Journal

Bible with silver cross necklaceKeeping a prayer journal is a great way to strengthen your relationship with Christ. It offers a unique opportunity to quietly reflect on your journey of faith while keeping friends and family members in your thoughts and prayers.

Writing down your daily conversations with Christ should also be more than simply an exercise in asking for His help. Your journal should also include messages of appreciation – especially if you are recovering from an addiction to drugs or alcohol. Taking the time to focus on your blessings can help reduce your risk of relapse by warding off depression. And, you can use that positive momentum to keep moving forward.

Given that Thanksgiving is tomorrow, why not take this opportunity to start incorporating messages of gratitude from the Bible into your prayer journal each day? Incorporating this small change into your daily routine can help you grow spiritually and continue to walk in the footsteps of Christ.

To help you get inspired, here are a few verses you can use to start adding gratitude into your daily dialogue with Christ.

Cultivating a Routine of Gratitude

(1) Psalm 100:1-5 ESV

Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise!

(2) Psalm 118:28-29 ESV

You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

(3) Psalm 136:1-26 ESV

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Leaving behind a life of addiction leaves room in your heart for more love, more hope, more joy and more gratitude. If you are feeling blessed in this season of thanks, take a few moments to acknowledge the prayers that have already been answered.
